about

Kiko Navarro kicks off the first anniversary celebrations for his Afroterraneo imprint with this special DJ Sampler, presenting 5 special cuts chosen from forthcoming compilation album, ‘Ano Uno’.

Representing the global, ancestral nature of Afroterraneo’s sound perfectly, our sampler opens with ‘Midnight Wajo’; an ultra-funky tango-dub workout by renowned sonic adventurer Nickodemus, alongside Pablo Sanchez and Troy Simms.

Japanese husband and wife duo Dazzle Drums live up to their name, bringing the sparkling percussion and rock-solid rhythms in a deep, arpeggiated and mystical cut titled ‘Agbaye’.

Local Mallorcan talent Melohman revels in hypnotic kalimbas and rolling percussion with his shimmering and ever-unfolding production, ’Afroground’.

Rome’s Glauco Di Mambro brings the carnival vibes with ’Tjuringa’; a satisfyingly syncopated dancefloor gem, led by snare drums and hand claps.

Closing out the sampler, Napoli’s Savio De Simone lays down darker, techier atmospheres with ‘Semba’, a dense, piquant and smoky groove to lose yourself in.

With the full ‘Ano Uno’ album to follow in only a couple of weeks, this sampler EP gives a thrilling taste of what Kiko Navarro’s ‘Afroterraneo’ has been all about in its first twelve months of life: culture, rhythm, magic, soul and sunshine.

DJ and producer Kiko Navarro takes another giant step on his creative path by founding new label ‘Afroterraneo’. Taking its name from a word Kiko invented to describe his 2003 remix of Joan Bibiloni’s ‘Joana Lluna’ ‘Afroterraneo’ combines the words ‘Africa’ and ‘Mediterraneo’. “The beats of the big continent infused with the Balearic vibes of my home. ... more
